Chapter Thirty-Five

It was as if the glory of an early spring was making apologies for the nastiness of winter. Crocuses and snow drops lined the driveway of Jordan's beach-side home. They were just beginning to poke their heads through the soil like newly hatched chicks too weak to leave their shattered eggs. Like the tender perennials, Jordan longed to turn her face to the sun and bask in its heat. But she couldn't stop. Not now. She had signed off on the investments Ash would need to cash in for her. He had already given in to his blackmailer's demands and prayed that would be the end of it. He urged Jordan to do the same. Now, all she could do was wait anxiously for the call.

On the drive into work she made one quick stop when she popped into her favorite little florist in Dundarave Village, a trendy area of West Vancouver. Once a landing point in the early 1900s for people who rowed their boats from Vancouver's mainland to their North Shore cottages, the upscale galleries, shops and restaurants still retained their old world feeling of time stood still. But time didn’t stand still. It lurched forward, seemingly at breathtaking speed. At that moment, Jordan's life felt like a runaway train hurtling dangerously down a rickety track.
